The modification of your already exisitng direct drive tunrtable may be an option and for speed modification to 3, 4 or multiple speeds, the following will be needed:
1) A direct drive turntable in perefect working condition* providing a 1/2" standard-mount headshell to mount 1/2" standard mount cartridges.

• I will be happy to tell you, if your tunrtable is compatible with these requirements
*If your existing tunrtable is less than fully working, I can repair / restore your tunrtable to perform to original specifications and do all of the technical maintenanace to get it ready for the rotation speed modification
2) Once the motor is modified to provide the desired platter rotation speeds, for 78 RPM playback, the tunrtable needs to provide:
A cartridge that provides the needed wide groove stylus for 78's, OR: A dedicated head-shell / cartridge, that provides the 78 RPM wide groove stylus.
• I can provide a suitable cartridge, a complete headshell, or a solution that will allow to change stylie between micro-groove and wide-groove sizes (for specific cartridges only)
If your turntable is one of the below listed makes and models I can modify it within 5-15 business day turnaround time. Costs are in the $175 to $250 range for the platter speed modification only. Cartridge / headshell / stylus options, or specialty modification items in addition:

If your turntable model is not listed above: Please tell me what make and model, if direct drive (belt drive turntable modifications to 78 RPM not recommneded, and often no speed modification possible at all - need ot know motor type), If the turntable provides mounting for a standard-mount 1/2" cartridge. For turntable models not listed above I will give a first response by e-mail, and if we determine, that your tutntable model is a likely candidate for possible modification you will have to ship it in. After an extensive equipment evaluation I will tell you what I can do for you, how long it will take, and how much it will be, or if the unit cannot be modified. If your unit cannot be modified, or if no work is ordered, I charge a flat $50 equipment evalauation fee and will return the tunrtable in the same working condition, or better, in which it was shipped in. (Likely I will perform basic maintenance and re-work to improve long term reliablity of your unit, in order to get reliable test results form your unit) Shipping costs in addition.
Please NOTE:
• Before a speed modification can be performed the turntable to be modified has to be in flawlessly perfect working condition - Can repair, if needed (at additional cost)
• Most tunrtables are limited to play standard up to 12" records. Speed modification to 16 RPM will provide 16 RPM platter speed for regular record sizes up to 12", but cannot address size requirments for 16" disk size, such as used for commercial broadcast and trascripton records. In most cases: for 16" disks a specialty tunrtable will be needed - Please Inquire.

What is the difference between Turn Tables, Record Changers and Record Players?
Turntables are usually component type Hi-fi Stereo players that hook to an external amplifier or receiver. Almost all vintage tunrntables output at "phono" level to hook up to a "phono" input. If no phono input is present a Phono-Preamplifier is required.
Record Changers allow to play multiple records automaticly without interuption.
Record Players are usually one piece stand-alone playback devices that have all needed components built in, which includes a built-in amplifier and most often buil-in speakers. Some record players feature detachable speakers. Most Record Players do not provide and audio output and therefore are not suitable for transfering or recording.

Description: This is probablty one of the most luxurious vintage Hi-Fi record changers available. The record changer chassis has gained fame for it's quality and the casing is the most luxurious Dual casing I have seen so far: It can be adjusted in height to shift between turntable and changer operation, and the record can be served without lifting the lid: flip it's door upward and slide it back which exposes the facing side of the turntable.
Dual tunrtables ar eknown to be a fine German made precision instrument form the good old days of qualirty and this unit is fully refurbished to last for years. The unit can play stacked records for uniterupted automatic play, or can be used as a turntable. The unit features an arm assembly that can be raised and lowered for Multiplay (records stacked) or for single play (use as a single play turntable). This unit features 78 RPM and has been fitted with the needed wide grrove cartridge with a 78 stlyus. A regular LP microgrrove stylus is included, which can be easily changed to serve all types of records. This unit was refubished with a detail oriented job to be at it's best and to last for years to come.
Condition: physical condition: excellent very clean (9+ / 10) - only minor signs of use and age - actual photos shown, can provide more detail photos. Working condition: REFURBISHED for decades to come. (mechanism completely overhauled: re-worked the idler wheel, performed de-greasing and re-lubricating on all mechanical parts, performed all adjustments. Description: The chassis of this record changer was made in great Britain by BSR and marketed here in the USA under the McDonald name. This player was refurbished for reliably working condition and is a old scool quality player that allows to stack records for automated uninterupted play. If 45 RPM singles is your cup of tea: This record changer is perfect, as it has a magnetic cartridge for quality sound and includes the 7" singles stacker adpater which allows to play a stack of singles automatically. This changer features 3 speeds: 33, 45, 78 and also can be used manually - like a turntable. This record changer is quite simple to operate, but very versitile machine. It is capable of addressing all record sizes: 7", 10" and 12". In order to play 78's a wider stylsu will be needed which is not included, by can be purchased separately.
Use this changer to transfer your vintage records to a computer to enjoy amazing vintage music or to bring back old memeories. I recorded a few 78's with this unit and am quite pleased with the sound quality. The perfect solution for everyone who operates form a small budget but still wishes to be able to play all record types! This record changer features a ceramic / crystal cartridge, which allow to connect the unit to and stereo system at "line" level (Tape, CD, AUX etc.) and does not require a phono pre-amplifier.

Description: This SONY direct drive turntable is a fine precision instrument that adheres to tight specification. A very nice quality turntable that I custom modified now to provide 4 speed (16 and 78 RPM in addition ot 33. 45) - now capable to reproduce all record types at highest quality: 16, 78, 33 and 45 RPM for sizes 7" to 12". It features pitch control and stroboscope speed measuring. It comes with the needed 78 RPM wide groove cartridge with a 3 mil wide grrove stylus. Both cartridge and stylus are new and an additional LP / micro grrove stylus to play LPs and singles is available at extra cost.

Low Budget Pioneer 4 Speed Hi-Fi Stereo

Custom modified to play 78 and 16 RPM records, or regular LP music at half of the speed for music practicing purposes in addition to 33 and 45 and 78.
Description: As many of you indicated the need for a turntable that plays 16 or 78 RPM on a limited budget, here now a turntable meant to work with smaller record collections, - in ohewr words: not a studio precision instrument - , my objective for this turntable was to provide a 4 speed player (16, 33, 45, 78) at the lowest cost possible. It wokrs and yields nice resultes, but please don't expect the same performance than that provided by my higher priced players. And there is one drawback: the cartridge is for regular records (microgroove) only and not ideal for 78's. While playing of 78's will produce sound, it shall be mentioned that playing 78's with this standard cartridge may damage the record, the stylus, and likely produce noise (but with old drity scratched-up records who cares!). What happnes is basically, that the stylus is too narrow to fill the entire width of the groove and will skid arround in it. Just to mention it: Any modern turntables that are only provided with a standard cartridge (almost anything offered today), but offer 78 RPM, have to deal with the same issue, except that this problem is usually not mentioned in any detail. I believe in full disclosure. If wanting perfect 78 playback, there is one option though: This turntable provides a P-mount cartrige which can be easily removed / replaced by the user, and there are a very few lonely P-mount cartridges available on the market that offer an additional 78 stylus that can be changed. However such cartridges are usually $100-$140 (you find - you provide).
Other than that: A basic Pioner Hi-Fi stereo tunrtable, custom modified to provide 16, 33, 45, 78 RPM with Auto-return at a very reasonable and attractive price!
